2 Weeks in Thailand - Tips to plan your journey and what to bring (2024)

You have dreamt to visit Thailand, Haven't you?

A land of contrasts and colors, where ancient traditions blend with modernity in a captivating mix. A place where white sandy beaches meet lush jungles, and temples shine under a tropical sun. A trip to Thailand is a sensory experience, an adventure that takes you to discover unique flavours, sounds, landscapes and people.

In this article I want to introduce my personal trip to this country, providing tips and suggestions, how to approach places or what you could do better than me.

Let's start!

First of all, of course, you need to plan your time there. Unless you live to the near countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia or Laos, you need to search a good flight to arrive there. In this case, a flight price checker is your best friend. I personally use SkyScanner.

Once you decided the days, it's time to book. My suggestion is, to first check with the airline company website, to see if there are tickets available or if the price is close to what Skyscanner suggested. I personally booked with Booking.com as they offered a good price for my flight.

When you book with third part company such as booking.com, you should check terms and condition or consult their support page related how airline offers support and what to do in case of issues.

Once you have decided and booked your ticket, it's time to plan the journey!

If you are at this point, sure you have seen videos about Thailand on social media. You surely seen Bangkok's Temple and night life, the green land of the north or the Paradisiac beaches of the south.

Now should ask your self: What I really
want to visit? Would I like a relax trip or a non-stop moving trip around? How much is my budget? How many days do I have?

Those are important questions, as they can influence your trip.

In my case, I opted for exploring as much as possible, preferring a trip that's always on moving. My total budget, including flights, accommodations, and spending money, should not exceed 1600-1700€ for a two-week journey.

There are to kind of person in life: who tries to plan most before the trip, and who decide do organise it daily once there. (I'm the first case)

Since the beginning of my planning, I opted to divide each day with what could be things to visit. This helps me to track everything I wanted to do, visit or saving useful tips.

I'll bring now How I've divided my trip

Where What to Visit Time
Day 1  Bangkok Khao San Market from 18:00 to 22:00
Day 2 Bangkok Wat Pho - Grand Palace - Wat Saket - Wat Arun from 9:00 to 19:00
Day 3 Bangkok Mae Klong Market - Amphawa Floating Market from 7:00 to 19:00
Day 4 Chiang Rai Wat Rong Suea - night Bazar From 15:00 to 22:00
Day 5 Chiang Rai White Temple - Wat Huay Pla Kang From 9:00 to 20:00
Day 6 Chiang Mai Discovering the town - Thai Cooking Class From 10:00 to 19:00
Day 7 Chiang Mai Elephant Sanctuary  From 9:00
Day 8 Krabi Ao Nang From 10:00
Day 9 Krabi Mountain Crest - Emerald Pool  From 9:30
Day 10 Phi Phi Boat Tour From 12:00
Day 11 Phi Phi Dive immersion From 11:00
Day 12 Bangkok Lumphini Park -Patpong Night Market - Nana Plaza From 12:00
Day 13 Bangkok Relax At Home - Flight Back

Hours can be approximate, as it depends by many factors, for example time of your arrivals or how you actually planned your day. This is something just to let you know what you can visit in 2 weeks.

This trip could be not for everyone, as you can be tired after just few days of walk and exploring or if you do not properly recover from the jet-lag, and of course also for  the high temperatures in Thailand!

Consider also how to move between cities, using flights, night bus or train or if you have a car. I personally do not suggest to hire a car, but I definitely suggest you to hire a motorbike. They are so cheap and so funny to drive. If you opt for this, you must have an International Driving Permit, most of the companies or shop won't let you hire a motorbike or car if you do not have the international driving Permit!

Clothes

Regarding clothes, you have to know that in Thailand temperatures are high, especially in Bangkok and South.

Here is what I've brought with me:

  • 5/6 T-shirt + 1 T-shirt for sleep
  • 2 pair of shorts + 1 short for sleeping
  • 1 long light pants to get in temples (You can just buy them in some markets, they are very comfy and light)
I used something similar to this:  very handy ones as I attached the bottom part before going inside the temple and remove it when discovering around!
  • 2 swimsuits
  • 8 pair of socks
  • 7 underware
  • 1 zip-sweatshirt
  • 1 light jacket 100g (I used this jacked just when I had layovers outside Thailand)
  • 1 pair hiking/trekking shoes
  • 1 pair of flipflop
  • 1 hat
  • 1 light rain jacket
  • sunglasses
